FAMILY WORKSHOPS 

Magic Years is a six hour workshop designed to assist parents of children age birth – four (4) years.  Parents learn about their role in the healthy development of their child.  Topics include:  identifying developmental milestones, nurturing routines, parenting styles, positive discipline, stress management, and parent responsibility.

Middle Years is a six hour workshop designed to assist parents with children between the ages of 5 and 10. Topics will include: Development, discipline, sibling rivalry, communication skills, establishing family rules, and nutrition for healthy growth and development.

Parenting After Separation and Divorce (PASD) – is a six-hour program designed to assist parents in helping their children adjust to parental separation or divorce.  Topics include: identifying parent/child reactions to divorce, developing skills for helping children cope, post-separation parenting, co-parenting versus parallel parenting, communicating effectively between households, and identifying and managing stress in you and your children.

Parenting a Second Time Around Support Group (PASTA) for grandparents and other relative caregivers who are raising their grandchildren or other relative’s children.  

Come share with other grandparents and relative caregivers and learn more about such topics as: your changing roles and responsibilities, discipline that really works, rebuilding a family, advocating for yourself and your relative children, communication skills, how to identify and get help for problem behaviors,and understanding adolescents.
Date and Time:  2nd Thursday of each month  from 6:00pm to 7:30pm.

Parenting Classes: Spring 2011

Challenges and Joys of Adolescents is a six-week program that helps parents who have a teenage child learn effective communication skills, set limits, and build responsibility and trust.

The fee is $25 for all of the above parenting classes.

All classes held at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County (203 North Hamilton St., Watertown).

Family Advocacy Program Parenting Workshops at Ft. Drum:

Baby Basics is a two hour parenting workshop designed to provide expectant parents with information regarding the basics of infant care. Topics will include: changing diapers, taking temperatures, giving baths, etc.

Connect the Tots Play Group is a new parent support group meeting for parents with children ages 0 to 3.  Did you know that babies and youngsters learn skills in groups that they can’t learn at home? Did you know that group interaction improves a child’s ability to reason? Did you know that playing is a child’s work? Come to the newly formed Play Group with your children ages 0 to 3 to learn more and gain valuable skills.

Terrific Toddler Parenting Workshop is a six hour workshop designed to assist parents with children younger than 4 years old. Topics will include: development, how to establish healthy routines, discipline, communication skills, and nutrition for healthy growth and development.�

Teen-Parent Dating Safety is a two hour program designed for parents and teens. Learn and practice ways to talk to your teen, parent and friends about dating violence, warning signs of dating violence, and what to do if you know someone in an unhealthy relationship.

For Fathers Only : A Dad’s Class
The 8-hour workshop is designed to provide fathers with tools to aid in te creating a stimulating environment and security in discipline.  topics will include:  challenges faced by military fathers, ways dads are vital to their child’s development, parenting syles, methods sof discipoline, and commuinicatin  skills.  Lunch is included.
